Biography

Dr. Md. Shamsul Haque Prodhan was born in 1st September 1971, in the village Narandi, P.O. Narandi, Upazila Manohardi and Narsingdi District in Bangladesh. He got Talent pool Scholarship securing first position in 1981 and stood first position in Center Examination in Manohardi upazela. Later on admitted in Pabna Cadet College (PCC) in 1984 and passed SSC in 1988 with first class (star mark) and securing government scholarship. He attended HSC examination from the same institution Pabna Cadet College in 1990 with first class (star mark) and awarded as the best cadet for the year 1990 from Pabna Cadet College.
Mr. Prodhan selected from ministry of education in 1991 for under graduate program and awarded Indian Council for Cultural Relations award (Indian Government Scholarship) for B.Sc. Ag. (Honors) from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya, Kalyani,West Bengal, India. Later on in 1997 April Mr. Prodhan
was selected from ministry of education, Bangladesh for Masters program and awarded Japan Government Scholarship (Monboshu kagaksho) in 1997 at Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo Japan under the supervision of Professor Dr. Yasokazon Hirai. Again Mr. Prodhan was awarded Japan Government Scholarship (Monboshu kagaksho) in 2000 at Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo Japan for Ph.D. program and awarded Ph.D. degree in 2003 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hiroko Morishima and Professor Atsushi Komamine D. Sc. Dr. Prodhan started his post doctoral research at University Tsukuba Japan from November 2003 and later on joined as post doctoral fellow at Ibaraki Prefectural University of Health Sciences and continued until joining at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. During this period he visited several countries for research and education purpose. Dr. Prodhan joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, School of life sciences in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Sylhet in the year 2007. Dr. Prodhan promoted as associated professor March 2012 in the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Dr. Prodhan received Ministry of Science and Technology funded project for Citrus improvement and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) funded research grant in the year 2012 and acting as a Project Director. He also awarded as JSPS-UGC fellowship for two years (2012- 2014) under the project titled: Association between environmental pollutant and non- communicable diseases (NCDs) in Bangladesh. Currently, he is doing research on Renewable Energy: A project funded by a2i, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh.
Dr. Prodhan serving as a life and executive member of Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology and Life member APEC and members of Japanese society of Biotechnology, Bangladesh Association of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology society of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Plant Breeding and Genetic Society of Bangladesh, Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB) and American Society of Microbiology (ASM). He is an editor and reviewer of several national and international journals. Mr. Prodhan is also supervising PhD and MS students as well as under graduate research students. Dr. Prodhan participated in several national and international conferences, seminars and symposia in different parts of the world.
He has published near about fifty research papers in different peer reviewed journals and more than forty abstracts and proceedings in different national and international seminars, conferences and symposia.
