Because of her potentiality at molecular level, in 2009, she received a visiting research fellowship under research project entitled "Improvement of ecosystem service functions toward the restoration of the Kasumigaura lake basin environment", supported by the special education research expenses, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan. She developed the subject in molecular genetics study involving molecular characterization of TC-resistant genes in Eco Toxicology and Chemistry lab (ETC), Ibaraki University. In 2011, she has received another visiting research fellowship in Eco Toxicology and Chemistry lab (ETC), Ibaraki University. In 2016, she also received India Science and Research Fellowship (ISRF) Programme. Her research interests include distribution and dynamic of antibiotic resistant bacteria in environment. Her teaching interests include undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology. She also teaches plant pathology and bioprospecting of plant products. Dr. Neela has received a good number of research grants under Ministry of Education, University Grant Commission, Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences and National Science and Technology as a principal investigator. Till to date, she has supervised 13 Masters and 04 PhD thesis. She is affiliated with the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Environmental Microbiology journal, Bangladesh Botanical Society, Japanese Society of Microbial Ecology, Bangladesh Microbiologist Society, Microbiologist Society, India, Organization of Women in Science for Developing World (OWSD) and Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science.
