Professional SummaryMohammad Basyuni, an Associate Professor at Department of Forestry, Faculty of Forestry, University of Sumatera Utara (USU). I graduated from United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Kagoshima University, Japan in 2008, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellow supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) at Center of Molecular Biosciences, Tropical Biosphere Research Center, University of the Ryukyus, Japan for two years. During PhD my research works have been focused on analyzing isoprenoids in the nonsaponifiable lipids (NSL) fraction of seven Okinawan mangroves and the characterization of seven oxidosqualene cyclase (OSC) genes from mangrove tribe, Rhizophoraceae. Special emphasis was on the triterpenoid compositions because these compounds were useful as biomarkers of organic matter from mangrove, as lipid input into the estuarine sediments, or as biologically active medicinal components. My postdoctoral research focuses on understanding the physiological significance of increased concentration of triterpenoid in mangrove forest with relevant to salt stress include screening of environment stress tolerance gene related to lipid component. After returning back to Indonesia from 2010 – at present my research focuses on understanding the physiological, biological and ecological significance plant lipid including isoprenoid and long chain polyisoprenoid in mangroves under environmental stresses and climate change as well. So far for this project we collaborate with University of the Ryukyus and Tohoku University.
