Olusola Samuel Areo is a Principal Research Fellow in the Department of Forest Products Development and Utilization, Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Ibadan, with more than two decades of professional practice in the Nigerian wood industry sector as a wood scientist.
He has vast experience in forest product utilization and forest operations activities, wood science, timber engineering, and the production of furniture items.
He has served the institutes in different capacities, such as head of the department (2022-date) and head of the section, wood processing (2015-2022). Head of SIWES and Corps Coordinator for the Department (2008-2016). Has served in administrative positions such as departmental promotion chairman, member of the institute’s Tenders Board Committee, Member, FRIN staff Training Commitee, Member, Internal revenue generation (2007), Assist Secretary (SAUTHARUI) and Member, FPD&U Saving Scheme Committee.
He is a member of the Alliance for Positive Environmental Impacts and Reforestation (APEARE), an environmental non-profit organization. APEARE's main objectives are to provide innovative solutions that mitigate climate change, protect biodiversity, conserve natural resources, and offer support and assistance to victims of environmental disasters.
He was a 2014 Wood Preservation Fund Students Scholarship Recipient (Forest Products Society, USA) and a 2016 Students Scholarship Recipient (Forest Products Society, USA). He has traveled to a few West African countries for conferences and programmes. He is good at communicating his understanding to others and relating well. An adjunct lecturer in the department of Forest Production and Products, University of Ibadan. He also consults for some wood contractors, builders, and furniture manufacturing companies. Dr. Areo supervised the production of furniture items used by staff in the institutes.

Dr. Olusola Samuel Areo is presently a senior lecturer in the department of Forest Production and Products, University of Ibadan.
He has well over 50 publications to his credit. He is happily married with children.
