Prof. Dr. Doha A. Mohamed is a Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at the National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt, with extensive experience in nutritional biochemistry, therapeutic nutrition, food science, nutraceuticals, functional foods, phytochemicals, and gut microbiota. She obtained her MSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from Cairo University and has been a Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry since 2011.
She served as Head of the Nutrition and Food Science Department, Food Industry and Nutrition Research Institute, NRC, from July 2018 to July 2024. Her research focuses on the development and evaluation of functional foods and nutraceuticals for the prevention and management of metabolic and chronic diseases, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer's disease. Her work integrates nutritional interventions with biochemical, molecular, phytochemical, and gut microbiome approaches, with particular interest in the gut–liver, gut–brain, and gut–joint axes and personalized nutrition.
Prof. Mohamed has supervised MSc and PhD research and participated in numerous funded research projects. Her scientific expertise includes phytochemical characterization, antioxidant and biochemical assays, molecular biology, microbiome analysis, and the investigation of bioactive compounds and dietary supplements. She is also actively engaged in scientific publishing as a reviewer, editorial board member, and Guest Editor for international journals and Special Issues in nutrition, medicine, food science, and microbiome research.
