Sanjib Pohit

Sanjib Pohit is working as a Professor at NCAER, India, since 2016. Earlier he has held research positions as Professor, Academy of Scientific and Innovation Research and Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR—National Institute of Science, Technology & Development Studies, and as Senior Fellow/Chief Economist at NCAER. He was also a Visiting Scholar to University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA), Conference Board of Canada.
He is an experienced CGE modeler in the area of trade and environment with 20 years of modelling experience. He is co-author of two book on CGE models.
He has provided research support to the Government of India for negotiation with respect to the Copenhagen Summit and Paris Agreement/Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) submission, and joint study groups on bilateral preferential trade discussions with the European Union, and Chile. He has served as a member of several committees, including the Climate Change Modelling group of the Ministry of Environment & Forests. He has also played a key role in the completion of research projects sponsored by the Government of India, the Indian private sector, and various international organisations.
He has worked extensively on cross-border unrecorded trade flows in South Asia with emphasis on why it happens and the quantum of such trade flows. While trade in counterfeit goods is not the primary focus of the study, it was observed during the course of the study that a part of such goods encompass counterfeit ones which are sold in the Indian market. He has about double digit publications on the same topic including one paper which was shortlisted for final round in the GDN medal competition.
In his independent research capacity, he has authored 5 books and written around 100 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals and books. As per RePEc data, he figures among the top 12 per cent researchers in India, and the top 19 per cent in Asia, with his score in ResearchGate being higher than that of 80 per cent of his ResearchGate co-members.
