Professional Summary

Prof. K.V. Mohanan is presently the patron of Gregor Mendel Foundation, University of Calicut, Kerala, India. He retired in 2018 as Professor of Botany and Director, School of Biosciences and Director, Interuniversity Centre for Plant Biotechnology, University of Calicut. A plant geneticist and breeder by profession, he has authored about 200 research articles, 10 books and several book chapters. He has organized several national seminars on genetics, breeding and biotechnology during his career and presented papers in international and national seminars. He has guided several doctoral and masters programmes and other research projects. He has been instrumental in designing syllabi and curricula of several graduate and postgraduate programmes of study in University of Calicut and has actively participated in designing the syllabi and curricula of some other universities of South India. He has developed an active research group on conservation, genetics and breeding of rice, plantation crops, spices, forest trees and medicinal plants.
