Professional Summary

In December 2022, Abu Hashem received his Ph.D. (with distinction) in nanobiotechnology from the University of Malaya. He has developed new DNA-based electrochemical biosensors to detect Porcine and box turtles based on an in silico-designed probe using bioinformatics tools and employing nanoparticles. In recognition of his outstanding contribution research and administration, he received 9 awards and distinctions, including 5 international awards related to his PhD research besides a Ph.D. thesis distinction. A short version of one of his review articles, entitled "Graphene and Carbon-Based Additives," has been published in the Encyclopedia. Besides these, he has developed eco-friendly microbial enzymes for leather hide processing, a microbial fuel cell for electricity production using dumping rubbish and going to develop probiotic for human consumption from local sources. He has published over 35 journal articles, 5 book chapters in 5 different books with worldreputed publishers, and 20 conference abstracts related to his research work.

In 2004, he became a Scientific Officer at the National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB). In 2013, he was appointed to Senior Scientific Officer; in 2018, he was promoted to Principal Scientific Officer; and in June 2023, he was assigned the current charge of Chief Scientific Officer. He has extensive experiences and proven track records in administration and management, such head of the research division and Institutional Coordinator (all divisions and branches of NIB along external communication) of the institute (NIB), which has made strong administrative ground and made him competent to carry out any administrative responsibilities. In recognition of his performance in administrative responsibilities, he received a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for outstanding contribution to the NIB, a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for excellence performance in ADP project implementation and saving huge amount of government currency from it and received an ‘Integrity Award’ from NIB under national integrity strategy of the government of Bangladesh for dutifulness, honesty, accountability and transparency.
