Biography

Dr. Tania Rahman is an Associate Professor of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to this, she was an Assistant Professor in the same department. Her core research experience lies in the regulation of Immune responses to enteric bacterial infection. This was demonstrated with research expertise as a Ph.D student at a state-of-the-art medical research laboratory in the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute, University of Melbourne, Australia. The two key components of her Ph.D research project was to investigate the role of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and the Regulatory T cells during bacterial induced colitis. While at University of Dhaka, her research aims to investigate several projects including gut microbiome as a reservoir of antibiotic resistance, determining the propensity of atherosclerosis in urban population of Dhaka city and the role of cytokines regarding this setting, environment toxics and identification of lncRNA encoded polypeptides as potential biomarkers for cancer. Dr. Rahman undertook her Masters Research project on cellular and humoral immune responses to the killed oral cholera vaccine in Bangladeshi Children in collaboration with the Immunology unit, ICDDR,B.
