About

Professional Summary

I am a career focused researcher and teacher at Edith Cowan University in the School of Science who strives to provide commitment, detail and focus on to the use of technology and the governance and regulation of that usage. I spend large portions of my time in the instruction and guidance of others to achieve technology-driven outcomes that are not just beneficial but enhance lifestyle and health through better practices.

I work to serve others, whether that be in the form of lecturing and teaching to undergraduate, postgraduate, or PhD students, or whether that be through service organisations such as the Australian Computer Society, (ACS) where the focus is on assisting people in industry, government, and the not-for-profit sector. I have chosen to drive these initiatives by demonstrating their application by example. I have served as the Chairman of the WA Branch of the ACS, I currently serve as the Australian Representative of the International Federation of Information Processors, and I have been the Vice President of the ACS from 2022 to 2024. I make use of the Australian Computer Society to parallel the important governance and ethical underpinnings that are required for anyone seeking to be regarded as an IT Professional. I stand for professionalism, ethical awareness, and fairness and equity. I spend large amounts of time promoting the IT profession to others along key messages such as Equity, Diversity, Honesty, and Success. In 2025 I serve as the President of the Education Computing Association of WA

I have a broad range of IT research vectors that are drawn together by one key shared central theme, which is the delivery of technology outcomes that are anchored to sound principles of governance and regulatory practice. Whether the research is around Higher education, social media best practice, Digital Divide Issues, Money Laundering, Cyber security and Deception, or Image Recognition, and Agricultural Data Security, all these seemingly disparate elements are importantly connected through ICT practice and Governance.

This passion to pursue the promotion of the IT Profession through Equity, Diversity, Honesty, and Success. It is repeatedly driven home by the increasingly large number of breaches, acts of crime, poor outcomes, and inappropriate behaviour. ICT is more than a set of technical skills. It requires an ongoing dedication to doing the right thing. I am proud to have achieved scholarly success, teaching accolades, and repeated recognition through industry and government, and I seek to promote the same values and aspirations to others within the technology community. The more I publish, the more I teach, and the greater the audience I reach, all support the ongoing dedication to ICT excellence across all areas of its usage and best practice.
