Biography

Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar holds a position of Professor of Biotechnology at American University of Ras Al Khaimah, Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. He earned his PhD in Biosciences from Drexel University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and M.Phil in Biochemistry from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Previously he was appointed as Research Officer/Lecturer in Biochemistry at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant and Assistant Professor at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Associate and Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College (The Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University), and Professor of Biochemistry at Department of Biochemistry, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Dr. Mukhtar received honors includes Cholistan Award 2013 for educational services in Pakistan, Asian Education Leadership Award 2012, Award for outstanding contribution in academia, Lifetime Academic Achievement Award, Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award, Outstanding Visa Award for conducting biomedical research in USA, The UNESCO-American Society for Microbiology Travel Award and Sigma Xi First President Award. He is professional member of American Society for Microbiology, International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), Dental Informatics, Online Community, University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, PA, USA, National Academic Council of Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad, Pakistan, The Society for Redox Biology and Medicine, and American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, Washington, DC, USA. Dr. Mukhtar has successfully supervised 7 post doctoral fellow, 2 PhD, 30 Master/MPhil, 5 Advised medical graduates in their residency for clinical research and 50 Undergraduate Students. He also served as member as well as advisor of over 30 different committee. He is member of Middle East Molecular Biology Society (MEMBS) Advisory Board and reviewer for Journal of Virology, Journal of Neurovirology, Virology, Free Radicals Research, Medical Science Monitor, and Protein and Peptide Letters, Journal of AIDS and HIV Research, World Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, Cambridge University Press, New York - Life Sciences Book Reviewer, and Bentham Sciences - Biological Sciences Book Reviewer. His research mainly focused on understanding the passage of viruses into brain and devising strategies for protecting brain from viruses and other infectious agents. He has completed 17 funded research projects as principal investigator and co-investigator. He is also acting as Consulting Editor for Neurobehavioral HIV Medicine, Editor for Journal of AIDS and HIV Research, and member, editorial review board for Journal of American Acad Research. He also delivered number of invited lectures at scientific meeting. Dr. Mukhtar has published 68 research articles in international refereed journals as well as 55 conference papers 1 book and 8 book chapters and 9 meeting reports contributed as author/co-author.
