Biography

Dr. J. Paul Chen holds a position of Associate Professor at National University of Singapore. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. His main area of research interest focuses on Membrane, Adsorption, Electrolysis, Ballast Water Management, Oily Water Treatment, Metal Removal and Recovery, Automation and control, Sensor Development, and Engineering Design and Scale Up. He has received various research grants with more than S$6,000,000 from various agencies (e.g., A Star, NRF, ETPL, MPA, and APL) as Principal Investigator or Co-principal Investigator. His technologies are licensed to three companies. He gave more than 18 keynote speech and organized 22 international conferences. He has trained a total of 30 PhD and Master Students and 10 research fellows. He has served as a peer reviewer for more than 120 international professional journals and US National Science Foundation, the Research Council of Norway and Research Grants Council of Hong Kong. Dr. Paul has received number of honors includes Winner of Sustainable Technology Award, sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (IChemE Award 2014), research award Distinguished Overseas Chinese Young Scholar from National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2007, Guest Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, listed as author of highly cited papers (Chemistry and Engineering) from ISI Web of Knowledge, and Mr. Yuh-Jie Lee Scholarship, Sun Yat-Sen Culture and Education Foundation, OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training, USA. He is also serving as Editor for Handbook of Environmental Engineering Series, CRC and Springer, Director for Overseas Chinese Environmental Engineering and Scientist Association and senior member of AIChE. He has published 4 books, and 101 research articles in refereed international journals contributed as author/co-author.
