Dr. Primuharsa Putra Bin Sabir Husin Athar is a Consultant ENT-Head & Neck Surgeon and one of the pioneers at KPJ Seremban Specialist Hospital (KPJ SSH). He had been a Consultant at KPJ SSH since 3 January 2005. He was formerly a Senior Lecturer and Consultant at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and had 25 years of working experience as a Medical Doctor, 23 of which in ORL-HNS specialty. He holds the academic position as a Clinical Professor of Othorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and sits in board of study, Master of ORL-HNS, at School of Medicine, KPJ Healthcare University College. He was a Visiting Lecturer at School of Medicine, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences and was a Visiting Consultant at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, UKM Medical Centre 2009-2015. He obtained his Medical Degree (MD) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1991 and completed his three years compulsory service with the Ministry of Health (MOH). He began his career in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery as a Medical Officer at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu in 1993 under the guidance and supervision of Head of Department, Dr Abd Majid Md Nasir. He then proceeded to complete a four-year residency training in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the same university and received his Master degree in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (MSurg ORL-HNS) in 2000. He completed his Gazettement at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu under the guidance of Dr. Zulkiflee Solahuddin and gazetted as a Specialist by Ministry of Health of Malaysia in January 2001. He is a National Specialist Register (NSR) certified specialist in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery by Ministry of Health, Government of Malaysia and currently registered as full Medical Practioner with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). He has served the Ministry of Health from 1991 to 2000 and has worked in several hospital including Hospital USM, Kota Bharu, Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang. For his outstanding services, he was awarded the Excellent Service Award from Terengganu Health Department in 1996. He then joined the Faculty of Medicine, UKM to serve as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery from 2001 to 2005. During his tenure, he was involved in various academic and administrative committee, research, and training, of both the undergraduate and postgraduate students. He was the internal examiner for the Part 1 Examination of Master of Surgery and Final Year Undergraduate Medical Examination. Apart from that, he was the co-coordinator for the Combined Head & Neck Oncology Clinic and has been appointed as acting Head of Department of ORL-HNS on several occasions. Academically, he has 258 publications which includes chapter in a book/ report, article in journal, proceeding and abstract. He is the author or co-author of Sixty-eight (68) peer-reviewed scientific articles in Medical and Dental Journals. He had authored a chapter in the book of Nose and Viral cancer: Etiology, Pathogenesis and Treatment and Oral Oncology. He is the co-editor of the MSO-HNS coffee-table published in conjunction of the 30th Anniversary of MSO-HNS (1981-2011). It is the first effort to record the journey made by MSO-HNS. He is a member of the editorial board of the KPJ Medical Journal, Archives of Otolaryngology and Rhinology, Journal of Procedural Dermatology and Case Reports International. He is also a member of review committee for Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) on Management of Rhinosinusitis in adolescent and adult and CPG on Management of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. He was also a member of National Medicine use Survey (NMUS) in 2010, 2012 and 2013. Furthermore, he is also a reviewer of 13 international and national scientific journals such as the Medical Journal of Malaysia, Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences and Dental Traumatology. He has presented more than 90 papers and has delivered lectures as an invited speaker at national and international congresses or workshops. He has been on the teaching faculty for head and neck courses conducted at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center, Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia and Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh, Perak. Apart from that, he had won several free papers presentation awards. His biography was selected and published in Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2010, Marquis Who’s Who in Asia 2012, Marquis Who’s Who in Science & Engineering 2011-2012, Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare 2011-2012, Malaysia’s Who’s Who 2013-2014 and Malaysia: Who’s Who in the Civil Service. He is actively involved with professional bodies and has held several important positions. He is a Fellow of College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, Fellow of International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO) and Past President of the Malaysian Society of Otorhinolaryngologists-Head & Neck Surgeon (MSO-HNS) 2012-2013. He is the chairman of Risk Management Committee, Patient Safety Goals Committee, Research and Development Committee and advisor for 5S Committee. He has donated the 5S rotational trophy for 5S competition winner, known as - Prof Dr Primuharsa Putra’s Cup to KPJ Seremban Specialist Hospital on 14 Nov 2013. Apart from having experiences in management of a wide range of ENT-Head & Neck diseases, he has a special interest in Head & Neck Oncology Surgery, Anterior Apnea (OSA)/Snoring. He also has attended various workshops and training programmes in Singapore, Hong Kong and Birmingham. He has special interests in Medical Antique and established his personal Medical Gallery in 1993.
