Biography

Dr. Ziad A. Abdeen holds a position of Professor in Department of Community Health and Director of Al-Quds Nutrition and Health Research Institute, and Adjunct Professor at Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He has completed his PhD in Clinical Biochemistry from Manchester University, Manchester, England and MPH in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene, Baltimore, MD, USA. He is also serving as Visiting Scholar in Molecular Biology at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel, and Adjunct Faculty in School of Public Health York University, Canada. Previously he was appointed as Dean of Faculty of Science at Hebron University, Executive Director at Palestinian National Health Plan, Planning and Research Center, and Assistant to the President at The Al-Quds Bard Honors College for Liberal Arts and Sciences. He is member of Applied Research Institute, Family Planning Association, Society for Unintentional Injury Prevention Research, Society for Research on Adolescents, American Society for Clinical Nutrition, Global Health Council, International Union for Health Promotion and Education, American Dietetic Association, The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, American Diabetes Association and founder and member of Al-Quds Public Health Society. Dr. Ziad received honors includes Salzburg Seminar Award, Outstanding Service and Leadership Award as the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Al-Quds University, Whos Who in the World, and The International Biographical Center of Cambridge, England as an Leading Health Professionals of the World. He also received number of grants for his research work. His area of research interest focuses on Dietary intake Impacts on Children, Youth and Families, Childhood Obesity, Determinants and Surveillance, Leishmaniasis in the Middle East, Prevention/Intervention Research, and Adolescent Health Behavior. He has published 91 research articles in journals contributed as author/co-author. He is chief editor for University facts and Figures, member of editorial board in International Scholarly Research Network. He is also acting as reviewer for American Journal Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Bulletin, Journal of Adolescent Health, Veterinary Parasitology, Cancer, Causes and Control, Palestinian Welfare Association for Health Sciences, and American Journal of Epidemiology. He supervised and co-supervised number of MSc and M.Phil students.
