Dr. Richard de Grijs has obtained his PhD from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) in 1997, and held two postdoctoral positions (at the University of Virginia, USA, and the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, UK), before being appointed to a permanent post at the University of Sheffield (UK) in 2003. He joined the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University in September 2009 as a full Professor. He has been one of the Scientific Editors of The Astrophysical Journal since 2006 and took on the role of deputy Editor of The Astrophysical Journal Letters in September 2012. He is the joint Director of the East Asian Regional Office of Astronomy for Development, as well as the international coordinator for China of the Institute of Physics (UK). Previously he was appointed as Visiting Academy Professor at Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), Honorary Reader, Reader, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer in Astrophysics at Department of Physics & Astronomy, University of Sheffield (UK) and Visiting Professor at Kyung Hee University. He is member of various scientific societies such as International Astronomical Union, American Astronomical Society, Netherlands Astronomical Society, Royal Astronomical Society, Chinese Astronomical Society and Beijing Astronomical Society. Dr. Richard was awarded the 2012 Selby Award for excellence in science by the Australian Academy of Science, as well as a 2013 Visiting Academy Professorship at Leiden University by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, British Association for the Advancement of Science award lecture, and Excellent performance award by Peking University. He also recognized in various national and international committees, advisory boards and consultancy. He also delivered number of invited lectures in workshops, conferences and trainings. He also completed number of research projects as principal investigator and co-principal investigator. Dr. Richard has published 72 research articles in journals contributed as author/co-author. As an Editage trainer, Dr. Richard has conducted workshops in China, Korea, and Japan. He also supervised number of postgraduate thesis.
